Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I just get a gray screen when I try and connect
A: If trying to connect with XDMCP to a X server that is wrong configured or isn't online will produce that, check that the Display manager is correctly configured, loaded and that the server is online. See Online manual for details.

Q: Nothing happens when using the X11 forward with SSH
A: If it's the first time you connect to that server using SSH, you must start it in debug mode and press "y" to save the server public key in registry.
If it isn't the first time, make sure that you have enabled X11 forward in your configuration. See Online manual for details

Q: I have translated the program, where do I find the file and who do I send it to?
A: You find the language file in you installation directory under "lang". Please email it to esben (at) linuxtech (dot) dk

A: Either email a detailed report to esben (at) linuxtech (dot) dk or open a bug report on the projectpage @ sf.net.

Q: I made a patch to correct a bug or with a new feature, what do I do?
A: E-mail it to me please, esben (at) linuxtech (dot) dk, or add it to the patch system on the projectpage at sf.net. Im always interested in new features or bug fixes.

Q: Im using Gnome 2.8.1 I can login but I get a error and it exits. I can logon locally on the server.
A: There is a least one user report that with Gnome 2.8.1 with Debian Unstable, it crashes right after logon, and shows the logon GUI again. The problem does not apear when logging on locally or from another Linux machine also using XDMCP. The problem disapears with a upgrade of cygwin, it will be included into the next release of LinuxTSC (ver. 0.4) until that is released either upgrade cygwin manually or email to the mailing list for futher details.

Q: I see a gray screen and X-like mouse pointer, but nothing happens then, even after a few minutes.
A: Push the 'Advanced' button, then open the 'Application' tab and add '-ac' parameter to the 'Path to XWin.exe'. It should look like this: 'C:\Program Files\LinuxTSC\usr\X11R6\bin\XWin.exe -ac'. '-ac' stays for disable access control.
